Bio

Rochester, N.Y. native Robert Agostinelli earned his MBA at Columbia University before a stint at Rothschild. Joining Goldman Sachs in 1982, he contributed to the founding of the bank’s international M&A business before departing the firm as a senior partner for Lazard in 1987.

Together with partner Steven Langman, Agostinelli struck out on his own in 1995 with the founding of New York-based private equity shop Rhone Group. The outfit, of which Agostinelli owns approximately 50%, now manages approximately $8.5 billion. Robert Agostinelli is a supporter of numerous right-wing causes and a founding member of the Friends of Israel Initiative and the Council on Foreign Relations. He counts Nicolas Sarkozy, George Bush and José María Aznar as close friends.

While based in New York, he maintains homes in London and Paris and is a collector of wine and art.

Robert has also written many articles for the Wall Street Journal.

Robert Agostinelli is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a leading supporter of Zionist and neoconservative causes. He is one of the Founding Members of the Friends of Israel Initiative. He is former Vice-Chairman of the Council for the United States and Italy (CONSIUSA), a member of the Investment Committee of Corporate World Opportunities of BSI Group/Generali Group, and a director and advisor to a number of European and U.S. philanthropic and civic institutions. In 2008 Agostinelli provided substantial funding to the presidential campaigns of John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.

He is a senior member of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation led by the American Patriots Campaign Cabinet, and a senior board director on the American Italian Cancer Foundation. In August 2011 Agostinelli gave a speech in the Mahan Reading room at the U.S. Naval War College, where he discussed the potential implications that policy decisions made in response to the 2008 financial crisis could have on U.S. national security Arguing against government decisions to pick winners and losers, he predicted that failure to allow companies to go bankrupt could have pernicious effects on long-term U.S. economic growth, which could lead to unprecedented intrusions into the freedom of American citizens. Agostinelli also warned that deficit spending is giving China increased influence over American affairs, with possible implications for national security. In 2014 Agostinelli donated $100,000 to his close friend and associate John R. Bolton‘s PAC. He is also a member of the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors.

According to Forbes, Robert Agostinelli has a net worth of $1.0 billion as of March 2012 ranking him at #416 among American billionaires. In correlation, The Sunday Times Rich List and Financial News reported Robert Agostinelli’s net worth at £630 million as of 2012 ranking him at #124 among the richest people in the United Kingdom.

Early Life and Education

Agostinelli is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Agostinelli was born to Italian immigrant parents outside of Rochester, New York and attended the Aquinas Institute in suburban Rochester. He went on to obtain his BA from St. John Fisher College in 1976 and then attended Columbia University where he received his MBA and graduated in 1981 with highest honors and is on the Alumni Board.

Career

Agostinelli began his career in financial services at the Investment Bank Jacob Rothschild from 1981-1982 and then joined Goldman Sachs where he worked for five years and founded the firm’s international mergers and acquisitions business in London. Agostinelli then went on to become a senior partner at Lazard Freres in New York from 1987 to 1995. After which point Agostinelli together with partner Steven Langman then went on to start their own firm, the Rhone Group where he continues to work today.

Politics and Philanthropy

In 2008 Agostinelli provided substantial funding to the Presidential Campaigns of John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Agostinelli is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and a major supporter of Zionist and neoconservative causes. He is one of the Founding Members of the Friends of Israel Initiative (FII).

Agostinelli is also known for regularly writing articles in the Wall Street Journal on various controversial political, economic and social issues. As well as supporting The American Jewish Committee Magazine.

Scholarship Foundation Announces Pacific Northwest Campaign

SEATTLE, WASH. (July 30, 2014) – The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the Nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships, hosted its Washington State Gold Star Family Reception to honor the sacrifices these families and their loved ones have made on behalf of the United States. The reception, which took place during Marine Week Seattle 2014, will also kick off the Scholarship Foundation’s Pacific Northwest Campaign, a focused effort on providing higher-education support to children of Marine and Navy Corpsman in the Pacific Northwest.

The Scholarship Foundation announced the creation of twelve (12) one-year scholarships named for each of the fallen service members of the Gold Star families attending the Reception. Among the fallen from Washington, scholarships will be awarded for the 2014-15 academic year in honor of:
• Major Megan M. McClung USMC, 34, Coupeville, Wash.
• Corporal Steven Rintamaki USMC, 21, Lynwood, Wash.
• Lance Corporal Eric Levi Ward USMC, 19, Redmond, Wash.
• Private First Class Dennis L. Mitchell II USMC, 19, Spokane, Wash.

For the past 52 years, the Scholarship Foundation has been dedicated to honoring Marines and Navy Corpsman by providing their children with post-high school scholarships, paying special attention to those families of the wounded and fallen. In the 2014-15 academic year alone, more than 125 scholarship recipients have an injured parent or have lost a parent to the Wars on Terror. Military service members make legendary sacrifices every day and the Foundation strives to ensure sending their child to college is not one of them. Since 1962, 33,000 scholarships have
been awarded valued at nearly $90 million, and the Foundation is dedicated to continue its mission to give back to these families and pay tribute to their service by awarding every eligible student that applies with a scholarship.

At the reception, scholarship recipient and son of Veteran Cpl Benson, Teiler Kwan spoke of his trials and triumphs of growing up in a marine family and pursuing his dreams of attending college. Children of Marines receive scholarships

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (MCSF) hosted a reception on July 30 at theColumbia Tower Club to recognize scholarship recipients and Gold Star families—families who have lost loved ones in combat. One of the speakers was a scholarship recipient, Teiler Kwan. Kwan is studying Physics at the University of Oregon and is the son of Vietnam veteran. MCSF is supporting 2,194 students with $6.6 million for the upcoming academic school year.
